Thanks to my amazing friends, my husband will have helping hands to fill in while I am gone and I am so incredibly thankful for the women who will step in to love on my kids and help my guy handle juggling life with out me here for 10 days.
Over the next few weeks my goal is to try to finish up reading a few books. My heart is touched by the extreme sadness that has taken over Africa. The statistics are heartbreaking. These numbers are daunting. Overwhelming. Devastating.
According to Third World Orphans.org :
Every 15 SECONDS, another child becomes an AIDS orphan in Africa
Every DAY 5,760 more children become orphans
Every YEAR 2,102,400 more children become orphans (in Africa alone)
143,000,0002 Orphans in the world today spend an average of 10 years in an orphanage or foster home
Approximately 250,000 children are adopted annually, but…
Every YEAR 14,050,000 children still grow up as orphans and AGE OUT of the system
Every DAY 38,493 children AGE OUT
Every 2.2 SECONDS, another orphan child AGES OUT with no family to belong to and no place to call home
Many of these children accept job offers that ultimately result in their being sold as slaves. Millions of girls
are sex slaves today, simply because they were unfortunate enough to grow up as orphans.
And, yet, in Jesus I have hope for the suffering of Africa. My heart wants to do so much, but I must remember that I can only chip away at the problem - only God can heal the continent of Africa. But, we need to do our part with what God has given us...read what God's word says about helping:
Blessed is he who has regard for the weak; the Lord delivers him in times of trouble. Psalm 41:1
He who is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward him for what he has done. Proverbs 19:17
Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted, where no theif comes near and no moth destroys. Luke 12:33
A generous man will himself be blessed, for he shares his food with the poor. Proverbs 22:9
Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured in your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Luke 6:38
He who gives to the poor will lack nothing, but he who closes his eyes to them receives many cures. Proverbs 28:27
Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:7
It is my hope that by reading this you will be inspired to pray and help the continent of Africa. There are so many ways you can help:
1. I am walking 50 miles in February to help Acres of Love open a new Forever Home for 10 little orphan girls to have a place to call home for the rest of their lives. If you'l like to support me in raising my $1000 goal - please click here to connect to donation page - please put in the memo "50 mile walk/Leedom" or you can give me a check Made out to Acres of Love with the same Memo. Feel Free to give what your heart feels led to give, any amount would be amazing. Also, please consider giving monthly to the Siyabunga house to continue helping for the rest of these little lives. You can give any amount and make a huge difference.
2. Sponsor a child with Amazima Ministries - for $300 a year, you can help a child a child with school fees, a uniform, two hot meals a day, school supplies, and any minor medical care needed.
3. Keep the Country of Africa in Prayer
I'm sure I will have lots more to say between now and March 8th. Thanks for letting me ramble. Thanks for taking the time to read about what is heavy on my heart these days. Thanks for supporting me (with sponsoring me or with prayer). Thank you, in advance, for loving Africa.
