The Advent Wreath

We began our celebration of our Savior's birth today with our Advent wreath.  I have a great book that helps me celebrate a Christ-centered Christmas that is fun for the kids.  We kicked off the season tonight with our wreath candle lighting.  Here is a brief description of what we will be doing the next 4 Sunday's before celebrating Jesus's birth on Christmas day:

This circle of evergreen boughs reminds us of God's forever love, a love that has no beginning and no end.  Four candles- 3 purple and 1 pink- stand amid the greenery.  A white candle stands in the center.   The first purple candle is lit the 4th Sunday before Christmas.  On the next Sunday, light both the first and the second purple candles.  Two Sundays before Christmas, light the first two purple and the pink candle.  the last purple candle is lit, along with the other three on the Sunday before Christmas.  On Christmas Day, light all four candles and the White Christ Candle.  Each candle has a special meaning and something to focus on as we think about our Saviour in the the day's "to come" before His birthday.

Purple Candle #1- THE HOPE CANDLE- invites us to give thanks the our Heavenly Father for the HOPE we have in Jesus, the prophesied Messiah

Purple Candle #2- THE PEACE CANDLE- reminds us of the Prince of Peace that was born in Bethlehem so that we sinners could be at peace with our Holy God

Pink "Shepherd's" Candle- THE JOY CANDLE- celebrates the good tidings of great joy that is for all people - Christ is Born!

Purple Candle #3- THE ANGEL CANDLE- We join with the heavenly hosts that first Christmas night, we say "Glory to God in the Highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men" (Luke 2:14)

Finally, the White Christ Candle- represents the love that entered the world through the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.  The baby came to die on a cross as punishment for our sins - this is truly AMAZING LOVE!

I love how your wreath turned out! Looks beautiful with the tree in the background. I ordered this book after we talked about it the other day. I'm hoping for a very speedy delivery:).
